Abstract: The acidic extracellular polysaccharide from the Corynebacterium sepedonicum strain 7762, isolated by ion-exchange chromatography on DEAE-TSK 650 M gel, contains equal amounts of D-glucose and D-glucuronic acid. Results of the periodate oxidation and 1H and 13C NMR analysis data led to the following structure of the polysaccharide:

→3)-β-D-G1cpA-(1→4)-β-D-Glep-(l→

The polysaccharide was characterised by phytotoxic activity in the tomato and eggplants tests.
